A resident in Ballinwillin captured this photograph of the swan stranded in the Mitchelstown estate until animal rescuers from Fermoy came to its aid.

There was an unlikely visitor to Ballinwillin in Mitchelstown last week, as a young swan found itself stranded in the estate, after it had been separated from its flock.

The swan was spotted by residents on Thursday morning last. They subsequently called on animal rescuers from Fermoy and they rescued the swan before bringing it to Blarney, where it now happily spending its days with ducks and other birds in a pond. It did not suffer any injuries.
