As a host of events are taking place in Fermoy to mark Friendship Week, people are being encouraged to embrace the sentiments of the week by carrying out random acts of kindness.

The week takes place from March 18-21 and small groups and people in the community are being called on to mark the week in their own way, with small events and little acts of kindness. Organised by Fermoy Community Network, the week will kick off in the Fermoy Community Youth Centre from 1.45-3.15pm, as John Lonergan will lead a workshop based on friendship and being kind, with students from Colaiste an Chraoibhin, Loreto, St Colman's College and Youthreach Fermoy.

John will also be the keynote speaker at the main event - the open night of Friendship Week in The Palace Theatre, Fermoy at 7.30pm. Local man John Arnold will also speak on the night and all are welcome to come along to the free event, with refreshments afterwards.

Then on Thursday, March 20, Fermoy Men's Club will host a social afternoon in the Youth Centre between 3pm and 5pm, which is open to the public, with great music and entertainment.

Participating schools have also been provided with Random Acts of Kindness boards and over the course of the week, students, teachers and staff are asked to be more conscious about being kind and nice to others and to write stories of kindness on the board, as a way of spreading the message about the week and raising people's spirits.
