There’s uncertainty over the provision of a fire station for Lismore. Councillor Bernard Leddy raised the matter at the recent monthly meeting of Lismore Town Council, asking the town manager exactly where the plan is at.

He said Waterford County Council acquired a piece of land by CPO for a fire station, which they used to get progress reports on. The town manager said he wasn’t aware of any particular plan for a fire station for Lismore. He undertook to find out from the chief fire officer and report back to their next meeting.

Cllr Leddy also asked about plans to rationalise the fire service in the county in these straitened economic times. The town manager said he wasn’t aware of any plans to rationalise the service. Cllr Orla Russell said rumours were circulating that 3 stations in the county are to close and asked for clarification. The town manager said he’d also query this with the chief fire officer and let members know of any updates.
