The Palace Theatre in Fermoy is synonymous with entertainment and under Kieran Barry's tenure that proud tradition is continuing.
Granted, not every show is a sell out, however, this fine venue continues to provide patrons with a variety of entertainment ranging from stand up comedians to performances by psychics.
The most recent offering was 'A Night At The Palace' which ran for two evenings (last Thursday and Friday). The Avondhu dropped in on Thursday night where the place was buzzing in advance of the curtain going up. Most people purchased their tickets in advance and with little or no fuss were seated comfortably.
During the course of the evening, we were introduced to members of Fermoy Musical Society, devotees of Brightlights Studios and the mainly youthful faces associated with the critically acclaimed Montfort School Of Performing Arts. Special guests were dancers who featured in the Fermoy GAA Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser.
Organisers promised high class entertainment and thanks to the efforts of those on stage, this was delivered on.
Indeed, you couldn't fail to be impressed with the enthusiasm, vigour and panache of performers who ranged in age from teenagers to senior citizens. Lyrically, the spectrum covered went from old style musical numbers to that genre so loved of today's youth, hip hop.
Every performance was greeted with rapturous applause and the young entertainers in particular seemed to relish the spotlight. There is no closed season at Fermoy Community Youth Centre which continues to be a nerve centre of activity for singers, actors, dancers and a multitude of sports people.
