Over the next three months, trucks passing by doors of houses and businesses in Fermoy will be a familiar sight, as Lagan Construction have started moving materials through the town for the flood works, but it will not be adversely affecting business.
This week, residents and businesses on Mill Road, MacCurtain Street, Patrick Street and Courthouse Road received notification that trucks would be passing between 7pm in the evenings and 7am the following mornings associated with the works that began on Monday, June 10.
Lagan Construction advised people that this would be the chosen route for the trucks unless an alternative is agreed between the town council, OPW and Gardai and if that happens, those affected will be notified.
Cllr Noel McCarthy told The Avondhu that they will be reviewing the situation in a month to decide whether or not it is working for all parties affected, as he said that while the times agreed upon will not hinder business, it will still affect people living on the route.
Adrian Godwin of the Fermoy Business Action Group added that everyone recognises that the work has to be done and if it can be done without disrupting business then that's preferable.
Representatives of the OPW and Lagan Construction will meet with residents or business people if necessary and anyone with questions can contact Cian O'Sullivan of Lagan Construction on 087-2527796.
