A trial roundabout will be put in place on College Road, Fermoy at the junction of Emmet Street and Devlin Street, in the coming weeks.

Chalk markings of the roundabout have been set down, which will be given a trial period of three months before a decision is made whether or not to construct a permanent roundabout.

The trial roundabout will be in place by September 1st, when the road will experience an increase in traffic due to the local secondary and primary schools re-opening.

FEEDBACK

Councilor Frank O’Flynn says gardai will be present for the first week to ensure that everything runs smoothly. An observation report will be published after the three-month trial period. A temporary pedestrian crossing on College Road will also be put in place.

Cllr O’Flynn welcomes any comments and opinions from local residents and road users once the trial period is complete. “It’s obviously an extremely busy junction, and it’s difficult because it’s not aligned very straight.

“With the observation report, they will be looking at what the best option is. I welcome the views of people who use the road everyday, and what their reactions and opinions are to it,” Cllr O’Flynn told The Avondhu.
