A horse was found dead on the road on Tuesday, after travellers were believed to have crashed a sulky into a parked car on the N8, between Skeheenarinky and Cahir.

A sergeant in Cahir told The Avondhu that they were investigating the matter, but that the travellers had left the scene prior to the arrival of the gardai and that the sulky hit a parked car and the horse died as a result of a broken neck.

He added that the horse was abandoned at the scene. Gardai would not comment on whether or not a sulky race had been happening at the time of the collision.

Pictures seen by The Avondhu, show that the parked car, a Volkswagen Polo, was badly damaged with a broken back window and considerable dents to the back and roof of the car. Images also show the horse, abandoned and bleeding, just a short distance from the car.

A motorist who came across the scene was horrified by what she saw, saying that it is disgusting that people did that to an animal and then left the scene. She called for the people involved to be made accountable for their actions, which resulted in the death of a horse.
