Traffic calming measures for Mulberry Road, Mitchelstown are "way down the line" Cork County Council's senior engineer, Brendan O'Gorman, told the recent meeting of the Fermoy electoral area committee of the county council.

He was responding to a motion tabled by committee chairman Kevin O'Keefe asking that traffic calming measures be reviewed there.

The engineer said there is no funding currently for stand-alone traffic calming in the area, outside of Low Cost Accident Scheme funding and Restoration Improvement Programme funding.

"As with all requests for speed reduction measures, the first port of call should be on site Garda visibility, detection and enforcement," he advised members.

The engineer gave a similar response to a request from Cllr Frank O'Flynn for traffic calming measures at Brigown Road, Mitchelstown. Cllr O'Flynn said such measures were needed to reduce the speed of traffic through Brigown.
