Bruen manager Richie Crean and his assistant John OÕMahony are oblivious to the view as they study the form at Cobh.

FERMOY GOLF CLUB

The South East League finally got up and running with a tough match against our near neighbours, Mitchelstown, in Cobh on Sunday last. Team managers Frank Fenlon and Richie Crean picked a group of experienced players interspersed with some for whom it was their first experience of this format.

We were first out at 11.30 with the Bruen pairing of Gary Murphy and Stefan Walshe leading the way. Gary and Stefan played some superb golf and were well on top throughout winning comfortably on the 15th.

Peter Kaar and Brendan Walsh were second out and while their match was close throughout they were just edged out at the close.

The final Bruen pairing of Frank Davis and Pat Smyth struggled early on as their opponents were playing excellent golf and built up a significant lead. Frank and Pat never gave up and rallied strongly to close to within 2 by the turn.

Unfortunately for us their opponents steadied the ship and closed the match out.
