Fermoy FC received an early New Year boost with confirmation this week that League of Ireland side, St Patrick’s Athletic are coming to town as part of their pre-season preparation.
Chairman, Aidan O’Mahony said the club was looking forward to welcoming the Dubliners.
“This promises to be a really special occasion for our club, St Patrick’s Athletic are a high profile team and it’s a great honour that they’ve included us in their pre-season plans,” Aidan said at the press event announcing details of the match which takes place in Fermoy on Saturday, January 18 at 2pm.
Also in attendance were players, Adrian Clancy (Fermoy) and Shane Griffin (St Patricks Athletic) along with Fermoy first team manager, James Noonan and club stalwart, Jim Corcoran.
McCarthy Insurance Group were represented by managing director, Charles McCarthy, operations manager, Paul Kavanagh and Charlie’s son, C.J.
Interestingly, the Fermoy based insurer, is main sponsor to both clubs. Commenting on this association, Charles said it reflected MIG’s commitment to local and national sport.
“MIG is proud to be associated with both organisations, St Patrick’s Athletic are a topflight club who can be considered serious League of Ireland contenders, while Fermoy FC represent all that is good about grassroots soccer,” he said.
