Tommy O’Brien from Mitchelstown performed for President Michael D Higgins on four separate occasions during the Uachtarán’s recent State Visit to Perth Australia.

Known locally for his musical exploits with Mitchelstown Comhltas and for his many musical sessions and concerts locally, Tommy entertained the President and friends at the finals of the Australasian GAA State Games before performing again at the unveiling of a famine memorial in Subiaco, Perth the following evening.

President Higgins was conferred with an honorary Doctorate at The University of Western Australia during his visit where Tommy was at hand to perform, and the Mitchelstown man was part of a ‘Sense of Ireland’ concert who entertained the president again at the Octagon Theatre.

Tommy joked that President Higgins was ‘probably sick of looking at him’ during the visit.

Well done Tommy!
