Funding has been approved for a new water main on the Shanballymore water supply scheme. As well as a new water main, 1,900m of existing asbestos cement water mains will be replaced. The scheme has been approved for funding under the Department of the Environment’s Water Services Investment Programme. The work is designed to address deficiencies in chlorination at the head works of the scheme.

In advising of the funding allocation, Minister Phil Hogan told Tom Barry TD that the scheme would also address the high levels of unaccounted for water and when complete, will provide the area with an enhanced water supply.

“Given the importance of the water supply scheme to the area I will be urging Cork County Council to press ahead with the work as soon as possible,” he told him.

Deputy Barry welcomed news of the funding approval.
