Two females and a male were arrested by Gardai following an incident in which a house in Ballindangan, outside Mitchelstown, was damaged by fire in the early hours of last Friday morning.
Gardai believe the incident, in which a bedroom at the house was substantially damaged by fire, had its origins in an altercation which took place between two men on St Stephen’s Night. Both were arrested by Gardai for public order offences.
A short time later Gardai received a 999 call alerting them that a number of people had entered the house and that a bedroom was on fire. The fire brigade was subsequently called.
A number of people fled from the scene in a car which crashed a short distance away. The occupants were identified by Gardai and were arrested over the weekend and detained for a time at Fermoy Garda Station. A file on the matter is being prepared for the DPP.
