Cancer is something, which unfortunately touches the lives of almost everyone at some point and over the past decade, the members of the Three Counties Motorcycle Club have contributed more than €100,000 to Aid Cancer Treatment (ACT) in Cork.

For the past ten years, in memory of the club's founder Jack Murphy, the club have held a very successful memorial run in his honour, raising money for ACT, as Jack was one of the many people whose lives was marked by cancer.

This year's run raised €2,670 and the cheque was presented to Pat McCarthy, chairperson of ACT and Bernice Ryan, treasurer of ACT, on Sunday to coincide with the fun day at Supermac's, Mitchelstown.

Chairperson of the club Patsy Cahill, thanked Supermacs who host the barbecue and sponsor the food after the annual run and also Hodgins Sausages who sponsor the sausages. He said that the success of the memorial run wouldn't be possible without everyone who was involved and supported them in any way.

Speaking about the importance of this fundraiser, Pat McCarthy of ACT said that the amount raised by this club has made a huge difference to the cancer treatment organisation.

"This means an awful lot to us and with this being their tenth year, it's a fundraiser that we know is regular and is well supported," she said.

ACT were formed over thirty years ago, is based in CUH and is a voluntary organisation that rely heavily on fundraisers like this to continue providing the service it does.
