In September we reported how Thomas Fitzgibbon from Glanworth who had never run a high-altitude marathon previously, would be the only Irishman attempting to complete the Tenzing Hillary Everest marathon in the Himalayas.

The event is named after Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary who were the first men to scale the world’s tallest mountain in 1953.

34-year-old Thomas, whose family run a pub in the village, explained that he was undertaking the challenge in an effort to raise money for the victims of last April’s earthquake in Nepal which left almost 9,000 dead, over 30,000 injured and thousands of others homeless.
