This Sunday, Knockadea will be a hive of activity with a special day to raise funds for Milford Hospice through the Drive to Survive campaign.

Being run by Knockadea Community and Sports Club on the site of the old school, the day will consist of a fun gala day and the third round of the grass championships for Motocross Ireland with quad and bike racing.

Both Motocross and Knockadea Community and Sports Club have been busy planning the event with the activities starting at 1pm on this Sunday, September 15.

Secretary of the club, Diarmuid Coffey told The Avondhu that there have been weekly meetings and many days and nights of organisation to get everything in place for Sunday.

The club decided to support Drive to Survive and Milford Hospice in Limerick, as it is a campaign which has been widely supported in the local areas, and they wanted to do something to help their efforts and be involved.

The first event and the main attraction is the Motocross racing, which will give spectators a thrilling, fast paced motor sport experience, where several races will take place.

There will also be a special race for locals to try their hand at the sport.

For those who aren’t motor sports enthusiasts, there will also be a number of side shows on the day. These include a dog show, sponsored by Gain Dog Foods, with a number of different categories for various sizes and breeds.

There will be wellie throwing, football skills competitions, horse shoe throwing and a novel and fun raffle, which brings a unique twist to the conventional raffle style.

As well as this, there will be a shop, tea, refreshments and fresh baking supplied and people can relax as the afternoon rolls on with live entertainment from Declan Ryan, a school children’s choir, live bagpipe playing, traditional Irish music and dancing.

Throughout the year, the club run Bingo on Tuesdays, a weekly Lotto and for the winter, they run a Foroige youth club with meetings on Fridays for the younger people in the community.

They are also currently finalising the details for a text alert programme in Knockadea.

At the moment, chairman Moss Carroll is organising a trip to England to see two soccer matches in Liverpool for sports enthusiasts. A night at the dogs in Limerick is also being organised for people in the community on October 12, and those interested can contact Ann Fox on 087-6138090 for further details.
