Ensuring the Christmas spirit reached Glanworth in 2015, the local community council and the Active Retirement Group have seen to the erection of the Christmas tree in the village this year.

The lights for the tree were donated by Brenda Burke from Wee Wisdom Playschool while the children both here and at the School Around the Corner playschool, made the decorations for the tree. The Active Retirement Group also donated a number of new decorations.

The lights were switched on by Fr Michael Corkery and Cllr Frank O’Flynn, while Catherine Desmond and Richard Butler kept the crowds entertained on the night with songs and music.

Glanworth Community Council member Pauline O’Dwyer said: “The community council would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and New Year. We would like to thank The Avondhu in Fermoy and Mitchelstown for all the press time they gave us in 2015.

“This year the community council and the Active Retirement Group added some more lights in the village, on the trees and on the main street. Hopefully next year we will add a few more. Thanks to all who helped out.”
