The Camogie Association introduces Club Playing Time Charter to enhance player experience

The Camogie Association has unveiled their Club Playing Time Charter, an ethos designed to elevate the experience of Camogie players at Club level.

With a focus on fairness, inclusivity, and player development, this Charter sets the standard for meaningful playing time and holistic player growth, and aims to promote lifelong involvement in Camogie. Central to the Charter is the principle of providing all players with meaningful opportunities to participate and progress, therefore, empowering coaches, clubs, and players to foster an environment where every individual can thrive.

The Charter offers numerous advantages to Camogie clubs and their players. By prioritising fairness and inclusion, clubs create an environment where every player feels valued and supported, enhancing the overall player experience. Furthermore, the Charter’s emphasis on skill development and personal growth translates into tangible benefits for players.

Brian Molloy, Uachtarán of the Camogie Association said: “The introduction of the Club Playing Time Charter marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to promoting fairness, inclusivity, and excellence in Camogie and we invite Clubs across the country to help us champion this. Together, we can ensure that every camogie player has the opportunity to thrive and success in our game.

“Clubs who embrace the principles outlined in the Charter will not only prioritise the holistic development of their players, helping them refine their skills, deepen their understanding of the game, and cultivate essential life skills such as teamwork and resilience. They will be better athletes as well as more confident and well-rounded individuals.”

Key Aims of the Charter include:

Meaningful Playing Time: Central to the Charter is the ethos of meaningful playing time. The Charter promotes the importance of ensuring that all players are afforded meaningful involvement in training sessions and matches, over the course of the playing season. By ensuring that all players have the chance to actively participate and make a positive impact during matches, clubs create an environment where each player feels valued and empowered to succeed.

Fairness and Equality: Ensuring that all players have equitable opportunities to participate in matches and training and receive playing time commensurate with their abilities and commitment levels, over the span of the playing season.

Player Development: Supporting the holistic development of players by prioritising their on-field experience and facilitating opportunities for skill development, teamwork, and personal growth.

Inclusivity: Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where players of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds feel valued and empowered to participate in the sport.

Club Recognition: Providing recognition and support to clubs that prioritise the principles outlined in the charter, thereby promoting best practices, and fostering a culture of accountability within the Camogie community.
