Local residents, members of community groups and all other interested parties in Fermoy are invited to an information night on the text alert system on Monday next, November 11, at 7.30pm in the Fermoy Community Youth Centre on Ashe Quay.

Text Alert has been up and running on a trial basis in a number of areas with success. Having made community policing a priority in his time as District Office in Fermoy, Superintendent Comyns said “I have a strong team focused on community policing in Fermoy. I want to further enhance this through the use of an effective communication strategy.”

Community Garda Katherine Canty added: “I am looking forward to engaging with all the interested parties and residents associations who wish to link up with this scheme. I feel this can only benefit the whole community as well as enhancing our crime prevention strategies. I see this scheme as a great tool in sharing vital information which will hopefully send out the message that in Fermoy, there is a community that looks out for one another. In the near future I would envisage a network of a few hundred people receiving information on suspicious activity and crime prevention from the Fermoy Text Alert network.”

Mayor of Fermoy, Olive Corcoran has added her voice to the scheme, stating: “I want as many people to turn up to this very important meeting as possible. It is a scheme which will definitely enhance our security and help strengthen the relationship between the general public and An Garda Siochana in Fermoy."

Speakers on the night will include Superintendent Comyns and Mayor Corcoran.
