Tallow group to ‘Shave or Dye’ for Irish Cancer Society

It’s a case of getting it on to take it off in Tallow, as several local bravehearts take on the Today FM Shave or Dye challenge, all in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

If you happen to spot a number of people in the Tallow area in coming days sporting brightly coloured hair, don't be alarmed.

A group of six locals got together recently with the idea of raising funds for the Irish Cancer Society through Today FM's 'Shave or Dye' campaign. A week on, they have posters up around the area, a charity site running and they've all had their hair dyed.

WAX ON - WAX OFF ...

A head shave night has been organised for February 22nd at 9pm in Lizzy Langton's Bar and a Wax Off will take place in the bar on March 1st. Another local woman, Emma O'Leary is doing a parachute jump for the cause.

"We've been astounded by the positive response to the campaign, with people actually contacting us to volunteer and help in any way they can," says local photographer Joe Hughes, who's being rechristened 'Papa Smurf', because of the particular blue colour he chose to dye his hair!

Joe mentioned in particular the support they're getting from Elaine Kearney of The Salon hairdressers in Tallow and Lizzy Langton's Bar, as well as DJ for their shave night, Michael Sheehan. Joe is also involved through his own business, Joe Hughes' Photo Booth.

"The Today FM Shave or Dye campaign has, to date, raised €6.1M in the fight against cancer and it is a pleasure to be involved with such a success story," Joe said.

The group are extending a warm welcome to one and all to attend the two nights and also ask that people support them and sponsor them directly, by donating on the 'Tallow lads Shave or Dye' sponsorship page of mycharity.ie
