The recent Munster Primary Schools swimming gala proved to be a happy hunting ground for a group of promising swimmers from Scoil Mháirtín, Kilworth recently.
Seven students made the journey to UL in Limerick City for this annual event and a total of seven medals were bagged by the three boys and four girls taking part. The students were: Fiona Miao and Ruby Coffey U10; Stephen Murphy, Tom Flynn, Jack Duggan and Sally Linehan U11 and Hannah Fenton U12.
All four girls qualified for finals in their individual events with Fiona Miao winning bronze medals in both butterfly and backstroke events while Ruby Coffey won bronze for her breaststroke. U11 boy, Jack Duggan, also made it through to a final.
The highlight of the day saw the four girls winning gold for the U12 medley relay. All four girls swam a fantastic race and were well deserving of their gold medial. This landmark win now means the girls will go on to represent Scoil Mhairtin in the National Primary Schools gala in the National Aquatic Centre in Blanchardstown next February.
All four girls for the relay and Fiona and Ruby will compete in their individual events. Best of luck girls and well done to all on a great day for Scoil Mháirtín.
