The Alzheimer Society of Ireland are pleased to announce that they will be offering their Insights into Dementia – Informing and Empowering Family Carers education and training course in Mallow from November.

The seven-week course will be held every Tuesday evening, from 5th November, 7pm to 9.30pm at St. Mary’s Day Care Centre (P51WKE3O), providing valuable support for those caring for a family member or friend with dementia.

Caring for a loved one with dementia can be a daunting task, but the course aims to help family carers by covering a variety of practical topics including communication strategies, understanding dementia, navigating changing relationships, promoting physical activity and maintaining a healthy diet.

Past participants have found the course to be extremely beneficial in improving their caregiving skills and knowledge.

Claire McShane, whose mother lives with dementia, completed the course recently.

“I have more understanding now in relation to dementia and how my mother is feeling, and I am more patient with her. Overall, I thought this was a very good course and I would recommend it to others,” she said.

The course is open to family carers of individuals living with dementia in north Cork. Participants can obtain an application form by contacting The Alzheimer Society of Ireland at 1800 341 341 or by e-mailing familycarertraining@alzheimer.ie.

The course will conclude on 17th December. For more information about the Family Carer Training Course, also visit alzheimer.
