The standard continues to rise when it comes to Hallowe'en. With each passing year, the costumes get more sophisticated and the accessories more elaborate.

This was definitely the case at last Friday's party in Riordan's SuperValu to mark the end of November festival when we pay homage to all kinds of ghosts and goblins.

If the next major seasonal festival is all about children, Hallowe'en isn't far behind and kids, especially girls, need no encouragement to apply make up and adopt some spooky persona.

Riordans' future customers were certainly well looked after at this particular party with a variety of treats laid on for them. Alex Hanley was on face painting duties with staff member Bridie Hamilton, entrusted with catering duties.

The party acted as a trial run for trick or treaters and during the course of the two hour Hallowe'en celebration, we caught sight of skeletons, vampires, zombies, gremlins, witches and mummies - the Egyptian kind, not the parents!

There were prizes for best costumes and adjudicating on this can't have been easy. Staff really entered into the spirit of the occasion and the youthful personalities from the twilight zone all went home happy.
