The second flood to strike in less than a week proved a real test for the flood defence scheme in Fermoy.

The second flood was at its strongest on Sunday afternoon and the raging Blackwater proved a serious test for the flood defence barriers.

“This was a really serious flood and on a personal note, I can only say how grateful I am that the scheme is doing what it set out to do,” a relieved Liam Clancy told The Avondhu this week.
