Fermoy is still in shock following the sudden closure of the Grand Hotel over the weekend.
A number of people have expressed the immense loss the hotel will be to the town.
“It was an ideal meeting place where one could enjoy a coffee or a meal with friends and there’s no place else in town like it to fill the void,” one regular customer said.
Meanwhile, a former employee contacted The Avondhu to distance himself from our story on the closure in this week’s issue.
“There is some mix up somewhere – it gives the impression that I was the source of the story which I wasn’t,” the man said adding: “The only official statement from the staff or management is that which was issued on Sunday prior to the closure.”
