On Thursday, 19th June, Dairygold won the award for Best Dairy Research Programme for the farmer training component of its successful Grassroots Programme at the National Dairy Awards, held at the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise, Co. Laois.

The Grassroots Programme was launched in 2023 to reward Dairygold milk suppliers who undertake certain actions on their farm to protect water quality, reduce emissions, enhance soil health and improve efficiency on farm. 93% of milk supplied to Dairygold is sourced from farms participating in the Grassroots Programme.

More than 2,000 Dairygold milk suppliers have completed the one-on-one nutrient balance training consultation, delivered with Teagasc and enabled by AgNav, as part of the Grassroots Programme. Each participating farmer receives a customised nutrient balance action plan from this engagement. Reducing farm nutrient balance helps to protect water quality and enhances farm efficiency.

Speaking about the award win, Dairygold Chief Executive, Michael Harte commented: “We always strive to do our best on behalf of our members in every activity we undertake across the business. This award win is a testament to the hard work of our milk suppliers and dedication of our Sustainability and Milk Supply teams and the Teagasc sustainability advisors working together to make Dairygold and the dairy industry more sustainable for future generations.”
