There were aromas and flavours from all over the world in the Home Economics room in Presentation Secondary School in Mitchelstown, as teacher Laura Healy made the new subject fun and interesting for the first year students.

The students were divided into groups and assigned a country to research. As well as helping to get to know each other better, they also had the chance to look up food, climate, culture, maps and flags for their place, with some students going all out and even bringing costume elements in.

Each group gave a brief presentation on their country, with some bringing in props like maracas from Mexico, or a kimono from China. There was a class vote for the best and Amy Senior, Sarah Burke and Grace Roche scooped the title for their representation of China.

Ms Healy said that she was 'blown away' by the quality of the work , adding that she even learned a lot herself.
