St. Patrick’s Day date for Ballynoe Point-to-Points

Punters attending this year’s point-to-point races in Garryanne/Kilclare, will hope that the luck of St Patrick will be shining on them, as the Ballynoe Point-to-Point committee have pencilled in the national feast day as their day in this year’s racing calendar.

In a new departure for the Ballynoe point-to-point committee, this year's races take place on St. Patrick's Day - first race at 1.30pm.

GAIN MARES FINAL - THE BIG ATTRACTION

As has become the norm in recent years, the big attraction at next Tuesday's point-to-points in Garryanne/Kilclare is the always exciting GAIN mares final, which is generously sponsored by GAIN horse feeds. Those taking their chances in this contest will compete for an increased prize fund, in addition to the Matt Mulcahy Memorial Cup.

OTHER RACES ON THE CARD

First race (1.30pm) - The programme starts with the maiden race for 4-year-olds.

Second race (2.00pm) - Maiden race for 5-year-old geldings. Winning connections will receive the Mossie O'Neill Cup.

Third race (2.30pm) - Maiden race for 6-year-olds and upwards geldings. As with the other races, there will be a prize for best turned out.

Fourth race (3.00pm) - GAIN mares final.

Fifth race (3.30pm) - Open lightweight sponsored by Kevin Hayes Fencing & Dermot O'Leary Agri. Ltd.

Sixth race (4.00pm) - Maiden race for 5-year-olds and upwards (mares). The trophy presented after this race is the Barry Brothers Perpetual Cup.

VALUE OF POINT-TO-POINTS TO RACING INDUSTRY

In a week when the racing public are being treated to the very best national hunt action from Cheltenham, it's worth noting that this year's champion hurdler, Faugheen, started out on the point-to-point circuit - the skills learned in this ultra competitive environment have obviously stood this wonder horse in good stead.
