Driving a car for the first time can be a daunting experience, but Leaving Certificate Applied students from St Fanahan's College in Mitchelstown recently got a flavour of what it would be like to drive, when they took part in the SIM Drive programme.

A teacher explained that the simulator driving experience encourages young people to drive in a safe and stress free environment, providing the driver with the confidence, technical skill and experience required to be a
safe and competent driver.

Students got the chance to 'drive' in the country, in small towns and in big cities and they became much more aware of
the huge responsibility that you have when you sit behind the wheel.

LCA Coordinator, Ms Canavan told The Avondhu that this was a very worthwhile experience for the students and it will instil a sense of achievement and self esteem into each one of the sixteen students who participated.

The students who took part thanked Mr Feehan (School Completion Officer) and Ms Canavan (LCA
Co-ordinator) for organising this, as well as the School Completion Programme for funding it.
