To help students to save before Christmas, Mitchelstown Credit Union this week started a saving stamp scheme in St Fanahan's College.

The scheme, which is open to all students, allows one to save in small amounts of just €2, with a full card being worth €80 to students. All full cards will also be entered into a draw for some great prizes sponsored by Mitchelstown Credit Union.

While those students saving will also have the option of opening an account, this will be a great way to save for festive expenses or to start putting away some funds for the upcoming school tour to Paris and Disneyland.

It is also a great way for parents to save for school expenses, such as the book rental scheme, state exam fees, the school bus and other expenses that pop up throughout the year.

Dominic O'Sullivan, the Credit Union co-ordinator at St Fanahan's College, said that this will have huge benefits for students, allowing them to save small regular amounts.

"The facility of being able to save using the €2 stamp machine given to us by the Credit Union is of great benefit to both parents and pupils, allowing them to spread education expenses over the school year," he told The Avondhu.
