Throughout the day on Tuesday, November 25, people of all ages made their way to St Fanahan's Well in Mitchelstown to celebrate the saint's connection to the town.
While many people visit the well throughout the year, St Fanahan's Day is always special, as people come together to honour the saint and to keep his memory alive.
People visited the well throughout the day and many returned for the Rosary at 3pm. There was good attendance at a Mass at 7.30pm in the church when a new statue of St Fanahan was unveiled.
Canon Michael Fitzgerald said that the committee are always trying to keep the tradition of St Fanahan's Day alive locally and they have been working on the statue for a number of months. He added that Tom O'Keeffe was instrumental in locating Shane Gilmore who made the statue. This is now in place permanently in the Church.
The Canon spoke of how people regularly visit the well to pray for their own intentions, whether it be before an operation or due to a crisis in the family.
The actual walk down to the well, with the trees lining the walkway, gives people the chance to reflect on life and to get away from everything.
The Canon also thanked Paddy Donovan for looking after the well as caretaker. He concluded by saying: "The statue will keep the Parish connection to St Fanahan alive for the coming generations."
