St Colman’sFermoy in top 20 boys schools in Ireland in latest league table

St Colman’s College in Fermoy has been placed in the Top 20 boys schools in the country in the latest secondary school ‘league table’.

St Colman’s College in Fermoy has been placed in the Top 20 boys schools in the country in the latest secondary school ‘league table’ coming in at No 19.

Disliked by schools and teachers who feel the selection criteria is too narrow, the league tables are nevertheless eagerly perused by parents. This was the annual league table published by the Sunday Times newspaper for 2013.

Three local schools made it into the Top 20 schools in Cork – Presentation Girls School in Mitchelstown in 11th place, St Colman’s in 18th place and Loreto Fermoy in 20th place.

The Presentation girls school in Mitchelstown was in 55th place nationally as compared to 56th last year. The figure for students at university from the school was 65%.

St Colman’s had made great strides since last year’s placing, making it to 91st place nationally as compared to 139 last year. The percentage of students at university from the college was put at 57.6%.

Loreto’s placing was  93rd nationally, down from last year’s 86th place ranking. Students at university for Loreto was put at 57.1%.

Also in the region, Colaiste an Phiarsaigh in Glanmire, a mixed school, had an even higher rating than the Fermoy and Mitchelstown schools, coming in at number five in the top 20 in Cork and in 22nd place nationally. That was down from last year’s placing of 19th. 74.7% was the number of students at university.
