St Colman’s College recognises outstanding talent

St Colman’s College, Fermoy hosted its annual awards night on Thursday, December 4th, acknowledging outstanding achievements in a range of disciplines.

St Colman's College, Fermoy hosted its annual awards night on Thursday, December 4th, acknowledging outstanding achievements in a range of disciplines.

Guest of honour, Professor Denis O'Mullane presented the prizes before accepting this year's Past Pupil Award. The young men and their parents were welcomed by principal, Veronica O'Donoghue, who roundly congratulated the winners, observing that the awards were official recognition of all the hard work put in by students.

Prizes presented before the musical interlude went to: Jack Shields (academic); Niall O'Regan (technology); Daryl Buttimer (construction); Cian O'Flynn (design & communication graphics); Kanoksak Santiwichaikul (art); David Gubbins (transition year); Eoin Walsh (special achievement); Nahel Bounane (music); Barry Pierce (poetry) and Adam D'Arcy (sailing).

The following were honoured to their contribution the green schools' committee: David Gubbins, Cian Donnellan, James McCormack and Cathal Leahy. Gaisce awards recipients included: David Quirke, Thomas O'Connor, Paul Noonan, Barry Cronin, Diarmuid Barry, Brendan Geary and Michael Cronin.

Next up were: Brian Kelleher (business); Ed Mullins (economics); Michael Geary (accounting); Frank Bailey (history); Rory O'Hanlon (English); Darragh Ó Ceallacháin (Gradam na Gaeilge); Eoin Donnellan (German); James O'Mahony (music); Diarmuid Neligan (geography); David D'Argent-O'Brien (chemistry); James McCarthy (agricultural science); Edwin Kent (biology); Jack Houlihan-O'Brien (physics); Senan McGrath (P.J. Doherty Medal); Michael Geary (applied mathematics); Darly Buttimer (UCD entrance scholarship), Cormac Mulcahy (academic); Cormac Mulcahy (UCC entrance scholarship); Cormac Mulcahy (science); Cormac Mulcahy (French) and Rory Morrison (endeavour).

SPORTS AWARDS

The following received sports awards: Sean Linehan, Shane Ahern, Oisin Hickey, Niall O'Leary, Beineoin O'Brien-Whitmarsh, Steven Hickey, Eoin Roche and Brian Roche. Ballyhooly junior B footballers, the Fermoy intermediate hurlers along with All-Ireland intermediate hurling representatives: Colm Spillane, Tadhg Healy, Anthony Spillane, Colm Barry, Brian O'Sullivan and Adrian Mannix were also honoured.

OTHER AWARDS

The other awards presented included: Matt Bermingham (distinguished service); Blackwater Sub Aqua Club (community award); Michael Bourke (St. Colman's Award) and Commandant Sean Murphy (outstanding contribution to history).
