The award winning tourist village of Castletownroche is about to boost its tourist numbers embracing The Gathering, with the launch of Irish Traditional Nights at The Spinning Wheel Pub Museum, which takes place this Thursday night and regularly thereafter, with booking essential. Locals and visitors alike are invited to enjoy an Irish Traditional Night of fine food and drink in the convivial company of local musicians, singers, dancers and storytellers in a village which is increasingly on the radar of discerning tourists looking for an authentic Irish village experience.

Castletownroche, set on the River Awbeg between the towns of Fermoy and Mallow, is long renowned for its beauty and even inspired T P Keenan to immortalise it in song with the ballad 'The Old Rustic Bridge by the Mill'.

The profile of this thriving village has never been higher having featured on The Voice of Ireland with Shannon Murphy, Operation Transformation with Grace Batterberry and Nationwide with the continued winning ways of the Tidy Towns committee.

A Village of Tradition, Castletownroche boasts a range of amenities with something for everyone. Heritage enthusiasts can enjoy the ancient fortress of Blackwater Castle, the 13th Century Bridgetown Abbey, and a multitude of heritage sites in the immediate area while the more active can enjoy the adrenalin pumping activities at Blackwater Outdoor Activities or the thrills and spills of the nearby Ballyhoura bike trails. Fishermen are catered for with the Awbeg and Blackwater rivers while those seeking a flavour of Irish culture will be delighted with the village’s latest venture of Irish Traditional Nights at The Spinning Wheel Pub Museum.

The Spinning Wheel was established back in 1791 and it has changed very little in the past 222 years. Old farm machinery, public house paraphernalia and vintage items of all descriptions bedeck the walls and ceiling of this charming pub which was voted one of the “Top 100 Pubs in Ireland” by the Sunday Tribune in 2004. Irish Traditional Nights at The Spinning Wheel will undoubtedly enhance the extensive amenities on offer to visitors to the village and hosts, Tom and Norrie Quinlan are excited about their latest venture.

“We want to give our visitors an authentic experience in an intimate setting where they can enjoy Irish heritage and traditions in a very real way and feel comfortable bringing along the whole family. We want them to get involved in the evening’s entertainment and we will even be getting some of them to pull their own pints!”.

'There’s no place like this place, anything like this place, so this must be the place'!
