Ahead of their National Collection Day, Special Olympics Ireland are urgently appealing for volunteers in Mitchelstown, Cappoquin, Lismore, Kilmallock and Tipperary Town to join them on Friday, April 26. This is the only day of the year that Special Olympics take to the streets to fundraise and it is their biggest single fundraising initiative.

Special Olympics are appealing to anyone who can spare a few hours on that Friday and they are also looking for a key volunteer in Mitchelstown to coordinate the day’s efforts.

Between 2008 and 2012, the Government funding for Special Olympics saw a massive reduction of 59%, so they are depending on people to row in behind this big day and give what they can, in terms of both donations and time.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Siobhan Nolan 085 8053242 or visit www.specialolympics.ie/collectionday.
