A special mental health seminar being held in Fermoy Community Youth Theatre on Friday, October 18 is targeted at teenagers. Focusing on the impact of physical and mental health on teens, students from Fermoy and Mitchelstown secondary schools have all been invited.

Organised by the Fermoy Mental Health Committee as part of Mental Health Awareness Week, the keynote speaker is celebrated author, broadcaster and public speaker Christy Kenneally. Siobhan Mackey, Community Drugs Worker with the Cloyne Diocesan Youth Service, will also speak at the seminar as will Liam Doocey, Youth Development Officer with Youth Health Services, Cork, the latter speaking on what services offer and how they can be accessed.

Local champion swimmer Owen O'Keefe will be a guest speaker, talking about positive mental attitude, what motivates him and the discipline required to do what he does.

Limited places are available for the seminar which takes place from 9am to 2pm with refreshments served. To register call Cork Mental Health on 021-453100.

The seminar is one of a series of initiatives Fermoy Mental Health Committee has planned. It took part earlier this year in a local anti-bullying campaign.
