Munster Cattle Breeding Group, the largest cattle breeding services provider in Ireland, gave board and committee members the chance to preview their new €2 million state-of-the-art bull stud at its premises in Mallow. The facility will be opened in the coming months.

The new facility will provide the National Cattle Breeding Centre (NCBC) with the additional infrastructure needed to scale up its breeding programme and operate to the highest bio-security standards. The high-tech centre will also enable conversion of genomic technology into real benefits in terms of efficiency and profitability for herd owners.

The new stud will also help strengthen the relationship between the Munster Cattle Breeding Group and the NCBC and ensure that bulls are housed in optimum conditions from an animal welfare standpoint, providing the best possible conditions to ensure a stress-free and easy-handling environment.

Pat Mulvehill, CEO of Munster Cattle Breeding Group, said building a more efficient and profitable farming sector is 'the bed rock for the development of Irish exports of beef and dairy products'.

"Not alone will it drive growth in exports, it also has spin offs in terms of building a more vibrant and sustainable rural community," he said.

There are currently in excess of 410 people engaged in the provision of services on behalf of Munster Cattle Breeding Group, including 47 full-time employees and 370 Artificial Insemination and Milk Recording Technicians on a contract basis.

Since the establishment of the original stud in 1948, Munster Cattle Breeding Group have developed a wide offering including DIY and AI services, Milk Recording, Liquid Nitrogen Service and, more recently, Herd Health and Fertility Services.

The new bull stud represents Munster Cattle Breeding Group's dedication to innovation and development that will help drive Ireland's agriculture industry forward.
