The countdown is on for the cross country Drive to Survive fundraising drive as there are now just six weeks to go and with this final push, the campaigners are urging people to set up their own local groups and row in behind the good cause to raise money for local hospices.

Drive to Survive (The John Gallahue Galtee Mountain Boy Trust Fund for Cancer Care) will hold a special meeting on July 11 at 8.30pm in Gallahue's Bar, Ballylanders.  This meeting will focus on safety matters relating to the fundraising drive around Ireland in August.

"It is most important that anyone joining us for this fundraising event in August attends this particular meeting as only those who have completed this training session will be eligible to travel with us on the around Ireland trip," chairman Dan Gallahue explained.

He also announced that two more Drive to Survive branches have been set up in Glenroe in Limerick and in Kildorrery in Cork.

Recently, Helen O'Mahony of Ballyfaskin raised €1,900 through a coffee afternoon; the Mitchelstown Drive to Survive branch raised €12,000 through a race night and the Easter events in Anglesboro raised €3,249. Dan Gallahue would like to thank them for their valued contributions to the campaign.

On Thursday, July 4, as part of the Kildorrery Hillfest, there will be a table quiz in the marquee and all support would be greatly appreciated. Also, on Sunday, July 28, there will be a coffee morning in Tigh Roy, Ionad Cultúrtha outside the village of Galbally as part of the traditional Irish music festival, Éigse Eatharlaí.

In the lead up to the drive in August, there will be regular meetings at 8.30pm on Thursdays in Gallahue's Bar in Ballylanders and it's a great opportunity for new people to get involved or simply to find out more about the Drive to Survive campaign. All are welcome.
