On Monday morning June 24th 1974, John Condon from Kilworth reported for duty at Shaws department store in Fermoy, which had opened 3 years previously in 1971.

Fast forward 40 years to Tuesday, June 24th, 2014 and the youthful looking John is still on the shop floor of Shaws in Fermoy. Management didn't want the day to pass without acknowledging John's loyalty and dedication to this 'almost nationwide' retail chain and following lots of congratulations from colleagues, store manager, Niamh O'Shea presented him with a gift voucher.

The man of the moment said he was pleasantly surprised by the gesture but didn't want to make a big fuss about it. Pretty much part of the furniture at this stage, John is a huge asset to his employer and is renowned for his friendly disposition, excellent attendance record and complete reliability. Well known in Kilworth GAA circles, he is one of the club's main lotto sellers. Here's to the next 40 John!
