Last week marked a tremendous week of achievements for the students of Shanballymore National School, as they excelled in three different competitions.

On Sunday, March 2, eight pupils represented the school at the North Cork final of the figure dancing category of Scor na bPaisti. Having won the final in Ballyhooly, they went on to represent North Cork in the semi-final in Millstreet on Friday last and are now through to the county final on March 29 in Ovens.

"The children were ecstatic. It is a fantastic achievement for them, for the parents and for the school community. A special word of thanks must be extended to their dance teacher, Mr Michael Ryan, as well as to Mrs Fiona Hannon who played an instrumental part in preparing them for the competition," principal Michael O'Sullivan said.

BUSY QUIZZING

While the eight dancers were in Ballyhooly, the school's junior quiz team were also busy at the Credit Union Quiz North Cork final in Mallow. Following ten rounds of questions, the young team were placed third.

While all of the excitement from both of these events was still high on the agenda, the school received more good news as students Tom Webb and Michaela Gould both won shopping vouchers for Mahon Point Shopping Centre in Cork for their poster entries in the Cork Mental Health competition, to design a poster to promote positive mental health.
