There was lively interest in the first of a series of seminars, held in Mallow last week, to create awareness of the opportunities presented by the establishment of Irish Water, the new body charged with the installation of water meters and the delivery of water services.
Hosted by North Cork Enterprise Board in partnership with Cork County Council and the Water Systems and Services Innovation Centre in CIT, it took place at Mallow GAA complex. Geared towards engineering companies, electrical contractors, plumbers and other professionals who may be interested in diversifying into the new sector, it outlined where new business will be available and how individuals and companies can position themselves to take advantage.
Contracts have been awarded by Irish Water for the installation of water meters and the programme is currently being rolled out in the initial areas. The Water Systems and Services Innovation Centre was established to create an expert resource in modernising the country's water infrastructure. It's been developed as a joint venture between Cork County Council, Cork City Council and the Numbus Centre at CIT, taking advantage of the latter's technological expertise.
Companies and individuals who have an interest in the emerging sector and would like further details can contact Joan Kelleher at North Cork Enterprise Board on 022-43235.
