Dear editor,

A freak wind on Thursday night last, brought a hundred and fifty year old beech tree crashing to the ground, completely blocking the N73 at Glenahulla, Mitchelstown. Robin Smith, the landowner was quickly assisted by neighbours, friends and motorists to remove the fallen tree. Four chainsaws soon reduced the tree to firewood and the road was cleared within 50 minutes.

Robin would like to take this opportunity to thank the local gardai, the patient motorists and all those who helped with the efficient clearing of the road. It was a wonderful example of community effort and seasonal goodwill that transformed a potentially dangerous situation into a heart-warming experience.

Yours,

Robin Smith,

Mount Eagle,

Mitchelstown.
