Science Week 2013 is ‘Exploring the XTRA-Ordinary’ in Cork

Seán Sherlock, TD, Minister for Research and Innovation together with Ireland’s favourite science and maths educator Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin, have launched Science Week 2013, ‘Exploring the XTRA-Ordinary’, which takes place from 10th – 17th November.

With over 101 events in Cork already registered on www.scienceweek.ie, and more to come, Science Week is calling on you to go ‘behind the scenes’ of everyday life and explore the extraordinary processes that are taking place in front of our own eyes! Every day we are exposed to extraordinary processes, from brushing our teeth, to the grass that grows in our fields, to our body’s ability to heal and mend itself – science plays a vital role in all our lives!

Launching Science Week 2013, Sean Sherlock TD said: “Science Week is Ireland’s national initiative appealing to everybody to embrace science throughout its various supported actions. It also promotes the potential and value of careers in science, technology engineering and maths (STEM). Science Week opens the eyes of the Irish public and showcases achievements through all facets of science, technology, engineering and maths and I strongly encourage everybody to get involved.”
