Dear Editor,
With over 4,600 people diagnosed with cancer each year in Cork, the Irish Cancer Society is calling on the public in Cork to get active and help beat cancer during this year’s race season. With four mini-marathons taking place in Munster in the coming weeks, the Society is appealing to the women of The Avondhu readership to join ‘Team Irish Cancer Society’ for the upcoming events.
The Mini-Marathon season in Munster includes events at the following locations: Killarney – Saturday, 20th September; Evening Echo Women’s Mini Marathon (Cork) – Sunday, 28th September; Tipperary (Thurles) – Sunday, 28th September and Limerick UL campus – Sunday, 26th October.
People of all fitness levels can get involved in these events which promise a fun day out for all the family and provide a good incentive to increase physical activity. All funds raised by those who choose to fundraise for the Society will go towards the provision of free services to cancer patients and their families all over Ireland. These include nursing services, cancer information services, transport to chemotherapy treatment and counselling to deal with the emotional effects of a diagnosis.
As the leading voluntary funder of cancer research in Ireland, the funds will also be used to support the Society’s world-class collaborative cancer research efforts into finding new ways of preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer.
To join team Irish Cancer Society today – CallSave 1850 60 60 60, email fundraising@irishcancer.ie or visit www.cancer.ie/minimarathon and get your fundraising pack today.
Your faithfully,
Órla Sheils,
Irish Cancer Society.
