A row broke out at this month’s Fermoy Municipal District meeting as councillors realised that they had lost the power to issue funding for painting work in towns and villages.
The issue arose as councillors were being informed by council official Diane Finucane, of the painting scheme for the area in 2020.
Cllr Kay Dawson asked that there be clarity on what power local representatives had around the allocation of painting work and the town development work.
She said that it was her understanding that ‘central area power had been removed from councillors’ with was minimising the power elected represenatives.
