Winning the national Q Mark title was as good as winning the lotto for John and Majella Roche of Roche's Londis in Doneraile, who received the award in Dublin for the Best Convenience Store for Hygiene and Food Safety in Ireland in 2013.

The shop is a family run business, run by John, Majella, their children and ten local people, who are all from Doneraile.

The National Q Mark awards are often referred to as the Oscars of the business world, and winning is considered to be one of the best accolades for a company.

Speaking at the ceremony, Majella Roche said that they were all delighted. "We are absolutely delighted to win. It’s a fantastic win for the whole team. Receiving this award from such a recognised and respected body as The Q Mark is evidence that we are committed to putting our customers at the heart of everything we do. This is as good as winning the lotto," she said.

On presenting the award, Managing Director of the National Q Mark, Irene Collins said: "John, his family and the service team are truly committed to high standards of operational hygiene and food quality. They have embraced the concept of continuous improvement, improving their audit result year on year. Winning this award is a fantastic endorsement of that commitment.”

The Q Mark Award for Best Convenience Store for Hygiene and Food Safety is one of the most difficult categories to win, as they must guarantee the highest standards of quality and excellence, by always reviewing their processes and procedures.
