Plans are afoot to clear the ‘islands’ that have built up on the O’Neill-Crowley Quay side of the river in Fermoy. At Fermoy Town Council’s recent monthly meeting, Cllr. Pa O’Driscoll asked about dredging that was going on under the bridge at present in connection with the flood relief works and if it could be extended to get rid of the ‘islands’ further down.

Engineer John O’Leary said he’d priced the work as a separate job and has also had an environmental impact study done. “I’m nearly there but I don’t want to do it now, there’s enough traffic disruption with the current works going on,” he advised the meeting.
