The arrival of the Munster senior hurling championship cup at the Blackrock GAA Cul Camp in Kilfinane last Thursday triggered off great scenes of celebration. The occasion was all the sweeter given that the man with the silverware was one of their own, Richie McCarthy - the lion-hearted full back who played a key role in beating Cork in the Gaelic Grounds.
Richie said it had been pretty hectic since the big win and that the reaction of fans demonstrated what success on the hurling field meant to the people of Limerick. President of Blackrock GAA, Donie O'Sullivan said capturing the Munster crown had given everyone a lift and he hoped the team could build on the win.
"They are a great bunch of players and it's great to have our own man at the heart of the defence. In fairness, they all played well against Cork and everyone is delighted for them," he said.
The camp itself was a great success with boys and girls receiving expert tuition from highly qualified coaches. Having secured an All-Ireland semi-final spot, there's growing belief in Limerick that they have a side capable of challenging for ultimate honours. One thing for certain is that John Allen and his team won't want for support, already the talk is about Croke Park and being present to witness what Limerick fans hope will be another step towards the Holy Grail of hurling.
