Results for round two of this year’s Mitchelstown Enhancement Awards have been revealed, showing that Ailesbury Court and Kingston College appear to be the tidiest areas in the town at present. Both received a final score of 86 points out of 100, while Ashfield Manor, Lower George’s Street and Moher Cresent came in as close seconds, gaining 85 points each.

Many other areas just missed out on the highest score by a few points, including Abbey Farm (82), Ballinwillin Close (83), Sliabh Alainn (82) and Roche’s Heights (81).

The highest points in the litter category in this round were given to Roche’s Heights, Ailesbury Court and Kingston College, with all being awarded 28 points out of 30.

All 17 participating areas received high points in the weeds category as the lowest score was 20 out of 30, while Lower George’s Street, Roche’s Heights, Moher Cresent, Kingston College, Ballinwillin Close and Ashfield Manor gained almost full marks with 28 points.

The judges considered Moher Cresent to be the most impressive in terms of plating, paintwork and colour, granting them a score of 27 out of 30 in this category.

Other streets and estates taking part in the competition are Carrigroe, James Street, Mulberry Crest, Robert Street, Ard Mhuilleann, Lui na Greine, Captain Keane’s Grove and Clonmel Road (North).

OVERALL POSITION

Following the results of this round, Moher Cresent are now in the lead in the competition with an accumulated score of 174 (out of 200). Ailesbury Court are close behind on 171 points, while Ashfield Manor are in third with 168 points.

Kingston College saw the largest improvement, as their score jumped from 81 out of 100 in round 1 to 86 in round 2.

The judges pointed out that the competition is still all to play for, as some areas are still very close in points. They added that while other areas need to do a little bit more work to gain points for Round 3, they could still win a prize for most improved.

These awards were launched by the Amalgamated Residents of Mitchelstown Association (AROMA) with the aim of encouraging local participation in the improvement of streets and estates, and so far they have been an enormous success. Here’s looking forward to strong round three results!
