The vacant medical officer position at Fermoy Community Hospital which has caused quite a lot of controversy, was finally filled earlier this week and full service at the 72 bed facility has now resumed. 

The crisis, which most significantly impacted the respite beds, had been ongoing since last September when the HSE failed to replace Dr Charles McCarthy who retired from his position as one of the medical officers at the hospital. Thankfully, the role has now been filled as of Tuesday.

Barbara Ryan, Director of Nursing at the hospital confirmed the news to The Avondhu this week.
